Statues As a Staple of Classic Art in Archaic Greece

Statues As a Staple of Classic Art in Archaic Greece The primitive Greeks built the 1st freestanding statuary, an amazing achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars.Statues Staple Classic Art Archaic Greece 638273897431983698.jpg Most of these freestanding sculptures were what is known as kouros figures, statues of young, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks. The kouroi were seen by the Greeks to embody beauty and were sculpted with one foot leading and an uncompromising rigidity to their forward-facing poses; the male statues were always strapping, brawny, and nude. The kouroi became life-sized starting in 650 BC. The Archaic period was turbulent for the Greeks as they evolved into more refined forms of government and art, and obtained more information about the peoples and societies outside of Greece. Wars like The Arcadian wars, the Spartan invasion of Samos, and other wars involving city-states are indicative of the tumultuous nature of the time, which was similar to other periods of historical upset. However, these conflicts did not significantly hinder the advancement of the Greek civilization.

The Dissemination of Water Feature Design Innovation

The Dissemination of Water Feature Design InnovationDissemination Water Feature Design Innovation 739522468033464552.jpg Spreading useful hydraulic facts and water feature design ideas throughout Europe was accomplished with the published papers and illustrated publications of the time. In the later part of the 1500's, a French fountain architect (whose name has been lost) was the internationally recognized hydraulics pioneer. His know-how in developing gardens and grottoes with built-in and ingenious water attributes began in Italy and with commissions in Brussels, London and Germany. In France, towards the end of his lifetime, he penned “The Principle of Moving Forces”, a book which turned into the fundamental text on hydraulic mechanics and engineering. Classical antiquity hydraulic developments were elaborated as well as revisions to key classical antiquity hydraulic breakthroughs in the book. Dominant among these works were those of Archimedes, the inventor of the water screw, a mechanized way of transferring water. Two hidden containers heated by sunlight in an room next to the decorative water fountain were presented in an illustration. The hot water expands and subsequently rises and shuts the water lines thereby triggering the fountain. Concepts for pumps, water wheels, water attributes and garden ponds are also mentioned in the book.
